This week I decided to try the NiceCNC Windshield riser Mk 3 for my KLR because the other metal one I had was costing a lot in experimental steel screws to get it to adjust neatly.


I saw this particular NiceCNC kit was reduced to $22 clams so I got it just for the wing nut adjusters I had been trying to get through Home Depot, Lowes and ACE hardware.


However when it arrived, I actually liked it so much due to the screws all being the right length and the metal paint quality looking so spiffy, that I just ripped the other "new" NiceCNC mk 2 metal ones orf and installed these ones instead.


These allen heads are all 4 mm whereas the other one had 3 mm allen heads.


I will keep the other metal ones as backups.


Back in June this year I had convinced myself that my KLR Windshield was not quite true center anymore.


Back in January of this year, I had purchased some plastic risers made on a 3D printer from one of the KLR specialty sites (3D Cycle Works). They were quite difficult to fit properly those ones were.


I started noticing left hand side sag in about May and suspected "summit were amiss" as Wallace would say to Gromit.


The only problem with these was that I didn't get the adjustable ones as they wanted $79 for them and my Ferengi mind would not allow it.


While perusing the interwebs for assorted KLR tat, I saw the CNC site had some Mk 2 adjustable ones for sale for $ 11.99 plus postage, reduced from $29.99, so I grabbed me a set.


What could go wrong for twelve clams I asked myself?


As I was taking off the old 3D Cycle Works Printed ones, I observed that the right one was fine but the left one was split at the top and the bottom, revealing the potential horrors I avoided as this coulda flown right orf eventually, (while I were riding it).

This probably resulted in the slight sag misalignment my optical sensors picked up on and was litterally a few microns from total failure (as you can see in the pic above).


I was expecting the new ones to also be plastic 3D printed junk but I did a 4 minute jig for joy when examining them revealed they iz made from top quality Aluminium!

My only bitch here is not all the screws in the kit are the same length, said instructions had photos but not clear enough for that detail and the adjustable one does not have a wing nut adjuster arrangement which woulda been rather nice....


I ended up spending about $20 on assorted 4 mm allen screws and wing nut sets taht I started to realize it was out of control.


For $11.99 I outlay I was not crying about it though...but all those additional allen headed screws and wing nuts were adding up a tad...

So, I set em where I thought it would be fairly neutral for my specific dimensions and I went across the Antioch Bridge to check the effect.


Said Bridge is a windy affair, so I found out fairly quick it was not set right and set them back on the high setting as a consequence of the wind buffetings I experienced at the lower setting.


I have a very long torso....


As you can in some of the Mk 2 photos, I put them in the lower setting on the OEM bike frame initially.

I feel the Mk 3's be jolly spiffy what, what, Tally Ho Chasps!?


The screen sat better at my custom adjusted swag setting, but as I said I did bring it up a step and set it lower from the higher step as I got helmet buffetings whut wuz fairly irksome!


At least now I have a wide range of angles to set it for!
